Sadie

Overall Rating: LOVED it! ♥️

The day I came home from work and saw a package from Macmillian Publishers on my porch I was so excited. Little did I know, the story inside that package was going to take me on a journey consumed in vengence.  Sadie’s conviction will make this THE BOOK to read this fall.

Nikaleigh’s Synopsis:

To say Sadie hasn’t had an easy life is an understatement. Resented by her junkie mom, she’s been her own adult since she was seven. In a home engrossed in drugs, alcohol, and a revolving door of shitty boyfriends, the only light in Sadie’s life was her little sister, Mattie.

When their mother leaves one day and doesn’t come back, 19-year-old Sadie is left alone to care for her 13-year-old sister; and honestly, its better this way – until Mattie is found dead. . . And Sadie knows who did it.

Devastated, shattered, and enraged she leaves everything behind to confront her sister’s killer but now Sadie’s missing too and “If she dies, she takes the truth with her.”

Nikaleigh’s Thoughts:

The story is written from two alternating points of view: Sadie’s and a true-crime podcast aimed at telling her story. As someone who listens to a lot of true crime podcasts, I really appreciated this approach. I found it to be exceptionally creative, adding a harrowing level of realism to the story that I wasn’t expecting.

The podcast point of view chapters are always one step behind Sadie’s. Seeing them uncover her tracks little-by-little, your heart racing with every discovery, hoping they catch up to her in time. While every ounce of pain and hurt and rage Sadie feels will twist at your heart, making you want revenge as badly as she does.

Finishing this book, my emotions are bewildered. I’m still not exactly sure where my feelings have landed on its conclusion – I’m still somewhere in the loop de loop of its emotional rollercoaster – but I do know I’ll be recommending it wildly when its released in September.
