We’ve finally reached the end of June and are officially going into the second half of the year! To celebrate, I wanted to share my top MUST READS of the year….So far.
#1 – Circe By Madeline Miller
My number 1 must read this year is Circe by Madeline Miller. It’s a historical-fantasy novel with a contemporary feel to it, following the Greek goddess, Circe in her journey to find happiness – despite her own divinity.
At first glance, it appears to be a long read, but you’ll find yourself flying through it. To read more about my thoughts on Circe check out my review here.
#2 – The Book of Essie by Meghan Maclean Weir
I knew The Book of Essie was going to be a top read for me this year just from the first two lines “On the day I turned seventeen, there is a meeting to decide whether I should have the baby or if sneaking me to a clinic for an abortion is worth the PR risk. I am not invited, which is just as well since me being there might imply that I have some choice in the matter and I know I have none.”
It’s heart-wrenching and empowering while still reading like a light read – although it’s content is anything but. Read more about The Book of Essie here.
#3 – How To Walk Away by Katherine Center
How to Walk Away is a book that will leave you truly invested in it’s characters. When Margaret’s entire life comes shattering down around her, she has to figure out how to put the pieces back together – and if all of those pieces even deserve to be put back.
Its a beautiful story of hope, happiness, and moving forward that is likely to become a favorite to anyone who picks it up. Check out my full review on How To Walk Away here.
What have been your favorite reads so far this year?
If you’ve read any of these or plan on picking one (or all) of them up – I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
