Overall Rating: LIKED it!🌟
I read then Then She Was Gone after selecting as one of my picks for my April Book of the Month box. I was immediately drawn to it after reading BOTM’s ‘quick take’ on the novel. It reads: “The missing daughter, the devastated mom, the new boyfriend, and the shock they never saw coming”
Ellie was the golden child in her family – smart, beautiful, funny. Expected to finish the year at the top of her class with her enchanting boyfriend at her side. She had the brightest future ahead of her – until she never came home.
Nearly a decade later, a lot had changed for Ellie’s Mom, Laurel. Her once perfect husband has remarried and her other children walk on eggshells around her. She’s struggled to move forward – until one day she meets a charming man who’s 9-year-old daughter has an eerie resemblance to her Ellie.
I loved the way Then She Was Gone was written. The story follows a non-linear timeline from multiple points of view; keeping the plot addictive from beginning to end.
Reading along, you’ll be sure you’ve figure out the twist and know the answer – What happened to Ellie? Soon, you’ll realize your focus was off and find yourself facing a twist ending that was entirely unexpected.
You’ll finish this book conflicted; shocked yet sympathetic. When you pick up this book, make sure you clear your schedule because you’re not going to want to put it down.
