Overall Rating: LOVED it! ♥️
Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine . . . or so she thinks. Eleanor follows a strict schedule: work, liquor store, home. At the office, her social interactions are limited by their awkwardness – In her personal life, her closest friend is the man who sells her frozen pizza and vodka every week. Eleanor is fine with this. When a new IT guy, Raymond, starts at work she’s thrown off by his attempts to get to know her. She avoids him, dreading the small talk she’ll have to make in the hallway until an unlikely stranger starts bringing them closer together. As Raymond slowly becomes Eleanor’s first real friend you begin to learn a little more about her: who she is and what’s made her so closed off. As the story continues you see Eleanor grow, come out of her shell, and face her demons.
This book was the definition of contemporary fiction. It’s focus is on Eleanor growing; learning to understand herself and the people around her. She’s forced to confront personal and social problems, including coming face-to-face with some serious delusions and mental health issues. In the end, you learn the truth about Eleanor’s past, giving the story a bit of a thriller-esq twist. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine truly has everything – its clever, heartwarming, and even a little suspenseful. This is a must read for 2018.
